Being A Coach and Business Practices with Leon Vanderpol

Part 1) 1/9/2012  7am

This class we focused on the "being a coach" part.

Define what being a coach is (5 words): empowerer, cheerleader, helpmate, encourager, listener

Leon defined coaching as "Helping others to do what they cannot yet do on their own."

- Potential of a human being
- Seeking peace
- Goal of coaching is to work on externally directed goal for an internal purpose (internal desire to achieve)
- We become a coach the day we start coaching.
- Coaching is a way of living.
- We all have an impact on everyone we come in contact with, positive change, potential

- Coaching is a process. Where are we now?, Where do we want to be? (Where are you going?), How do we get there?
- Where are we now? Self Awareness: Describe who you are as a coach today: "New at listening to others to help empower them to do what they feel will make them most happy in their lives.
-  Where do we want to be? Where are you going? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What will your coaching business look like? What we create for ourselves as a coach can be completely unique.

Niches:
- Identify your passions (Lady talked about people with post traumatic stress) and create your practice around that.

Homework: Take the time to become more self-aware. Take 20 second awareness break and just notice what is happening IN you and AROUND you. Awareness through observation.

Elevator Speech: What do you do? It distills the essence of your value. What do you do? To who? Benefit of what you do?

Price: I am worth how much? Look in mirror and ask yourself this. When you say an amount you feel good with, go with it.

Leon recommended business coach, Steve Chandler, Coaching Prosperity School, 18 disciplines. He says the #1 way to build business is to have conversations. Fill day with conversations with others, on going, directed to serve other people. How many conversations do you have planned today?
